The first piece of 2021 is called Hummingbird Flower. It’s based on a quilt pattern called Bright Morning Star pattern and it’s 8 X 8. It’s composed of 29 individually cut and stained pieces of a West Virginia road map.
Whenever I’m asked about my style, I like to say I want to occupy the space between John James Audubon and Chicago artist Tony Fitzpatrick. Audubon because of the technical detail and Fitzpatrick for two things. He’s not only a mixed media artist but also someone who’s a poet and playwright. I’ve occasionally written verse throughout my life, but with the new year I want to start with verse associated for each piece. Here we go….
